November SNAP Update

The Vermont Emergency Board met today, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 to discuss the following items:

  • LIHEAP – Funding for LIHEAP or the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program also known as fuel assistance. Vermont Department of Children and Families has said that this program will be fully funded with funds being distributed on or around November 12th.
  • Crisis Fuel – For those experiencing a fuel emergency there are funds available to help address those urgent heating needs. Those funds are expected to be available beginning December 1st.
  • November SNAP or 3Squares Benefits – The Emergency Board voted to provide $6.3 million to pay out the first 15 days of SNAP benefits for Vermonters. These funds should be distributed on or around November 7th. This would be roughly half of a recipient’s monthly benefit amount. The Emergency Board will reconvene mid-November to discuss funding the second half of November SNAP benefits in the event the government shutdown has continued.
  • The Emergency Board voted to provide $250,000 to the Vermont Foodbank to provide food or funds to Vermont food shelves to help those in need due to the delay in the payout of Vermont SNAP benefits.
