Central & Main, a new proposed housing development in downtown Windsor has been awarded $3 million from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. The project, currently entering the permitting phase, is a housing development co-led by Windham & Windsor Housing Trust and Evernorth which will provide 30 new homes in the community. This funding represents almost 25% of the total budget and brings the project to an important milestone where it is close to fully funded.

“Central & Main is the first major investment in new housing in the Town of Windsor since 2011.” Peter Paggi WWHT Director of Housing Development shares, “Windham & Windsor Housing Trust and Evernorth are very excited to bring new housing to Windsor, develop a vacant infill site, and contribute to Windsor’s downtown. Central & Main is an exciting step for both the town and our organizations, and we’re very happy to have the support of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board.”

WWHT and Evernorth have been working closely with the Town of Windsor and the Windsor Improvement Corporation (WIC) for nearly two years to bring this project to fruition. Bob Flint, speaking on behalf of WIC, said that it’s been a collaborative process. “WIC appreciates the hard work that the development team has done in working with WIC, the Town of Windsor and regional partners in making sure this is a project that will help to serve the housing needs in the community”, Flint said.

“Working in partnership with, and having the support of, the Windsor Improvement Corporation, the Town of Windsor, and the Mt. Ascutney Regional Commission has been critical to securing public funding.” Matt Moore, Evernorth said, “Helping the community of Windsor achieve their vision for a vibrant downtown is our goal for this project and with VHCB funding, we are one step closer to achieving that goal.”

In Windsor Village, WWHT redeveloped and owns the buildings Windsor Village, Union Square, and Phelps Court buildings (currently being renovated for energy efficiency and accessibility). Evernorth is a regional non-profit community and housing developer and partners with WWHT on projects including Union Square in Windsor.
